Templates

At the end you will have a popular self-hosted app deployed from a reviewed template, with its database linked and its secrets generated.

#Deploy one

In a project, press New app, choose Templates, and pick one. The last step shows exactly what will run: every image, command, port, volume and variable, and what happens on the first visit. Name it, pick a domain, and press Deploy. You need to be an admin and confirm it is you.

The domain is the free test domain or your own. Some apps need their address from the start, so Later is offered only to the ones that do not.

#What a template does

A template is a small file reviewed into Dockify's own repository and shipped with each release. Nothing is fetched from anywhere at run time, so no outside catalog can add a container to your server.

  • Same rules as your apps. Each one goes through the same Compose import checks. It cannot ask for privileged mode, capabilities, host paths or the Docker socket.
  • Secrets. Each is generated for your install and sealed in the secret store. You can reveal them on the app's Variables tab. No template ships a known password.
  • Databases. A Postgres or Redis a template asks for is a managed service, linked to the app and backed up on the schedule you set.
  • Images. Each is pinned by tag. The first pull records the digest, and a redeploy runs that digest until you change the image.
  • Order. Services deploy first, then the other containers, then the routed app.

#Claim it right away

Many apps let the first visitor create the admin account, as their docs describe. Each template says so before you press. Claim the account before you share the address.

#What can go wrong

  • It restarts during its first minutes. Some apps migrate their database on first start. Read its Logs.
  • It runs out of memory. Each container has a cap from its docs. Raise it under Settings, then Resource limits.
  • A hostname is refused. The name is taken, belongs to the dashboard, or spells another server's address on sslip.io. Nothing was created.
